![]() ![]() To draw the extruded aluminium profile Alexander used the Sketcher tools to create just one of the extrusions slot profiles. This was a much-needed reminder of the importance of open source and truly owning your creations, so I’m very thankful to Autodesk for this decision!”Īlexander has mainly used the PartDesign workbench and tools to create this useful design and he also used some incorporated some earlier project parts that was also built around 2020 aluminium extrusion. “ I switched from Fusion 360 to FreeCAD a few years ago, when Autodesk decided to cut back on features from the maker license. Chatting with Alexander it’s clear he is an experienced CAD user with lots of previous projects under his belt. So i suppose this is a bug (partial redundant constraints causing breakage).Spotted over on Mastodon, we thought Alexander’s ( AKA PCB holder design was an excellent tool and a great example of functional 3D printing and FreeCAD. However your project assumes that the arc is a half circle (you used tangency constraints at the 2 points), which isn't always the case. ![]() The project you attached is correct indeed, as is my example project with the partial redundancy removed. So this should fully constrain the arc, and as chrisb had pointed out, the issue is caused by partial constraint redundancy, and not lack of constraints. ![]() The whole arc is created as external geometry in the 2nd sketch, and the normal arc is created using the external center and 2 points. The arc in the master sketch is defined through center + 2 points (a center with 2 points define exactly an arc, actually 2 complementary arcs). You need here to refer to the center and one end of the 1st arc. You cannot copy an arc with 3 points : an arc is 5 Degrees of Freedom (dof) and 3 points are 6 dof. ![]()
